Temporary love

Do you ever hold someone, knowing they won’t last?

Do you lie beside them, hearts insincere,

Knowing you’ll be gone by this time next year?

But don’t judge me for the walls I cast—

I learned it all when my mother passed.

In her goodbye, a truth held vast:

Nothing in this world is built to last.
